 Grace Chiang, Managing Director

Grace Chiang is the co-founder and Managing Director of the Social Venture Group (SVG), a philanthropic advisory firm registered in Shanghai and Hong Kong.  Grace and her team have provided due diligence and consulting services to dozens of foundations, corporations and individuals resulting in funding for non-profit projects.  Under Grace's leadership, SVG successfully ran capital campaigns that doubled the capacity of China's only orphanage for the blind, established a counseling center after the Sichuan earthquake, and arranged teacher training for one of China's leading schools for autistic children.  In addition to her work with SVG, Grace sits on the advisory boards for several foundations as a China specialist.  Grace has spoken on philanthropy in China for local publications, U.S. MBA schools and the BBC.  Prior to co-founding SVG, Grace was Senior Manager of Strategy and Business Development for one of China's top semiconductor foundries and IP design services companies, where she played a key role in managing its Hong Kong IPO in 2004 and in developing strategic partnerships.  Before moving to Shanghai, Grace worked as a financial analyst in Citigroup's Global Corporate & Investment Bank in New York City, focusing on risk assessment.  She is from the United States, has a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and is fluent in Mandarin and English.

sam_head_shot_with_frame  Samuel Jones, Chairman of the Board

Samuel Jones has over ten years of work experience in China in the areas of organizational consulting, non-for-profit management, and training for expatriates in Shanghai.  His expertise is in the areas of human development research and executive coaching.  He was one of the founders of the Toastmasters organization in Shanghai in 1998 which now has over 200 people meeting around the city.  In addition, he has been active in many NGO projects including leading a multi-national tsunami relief team to Thailand in 2005 and leading teams of Shanghai professionals to orphanages around China.  He has a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Geneva College.  Sam is from the United States, and he is fluent in English, Mandarin, and French.

 

leo_head_shot_frame Leo Zhang, Senior Research Analyst

Leo Zhang was previously a stock analyst for Polarities Securities Co., Ltd., performing strategy analysis and industry research on the Chinese and Hong Kong stock markets. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and is a Financial Risk Management (FRM) Charter holder. His NGO experience includes leading a team of volunteers to work at an orphanage in Anhui Province in 2006. Leo has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Fudan University. In 2009, Leo was selected as a member of the 2009/10 Paragon 100 fellowship which is comprised of 100 young entrepreneurs in Asia-Pacific regions by the Foundation for Youth Social Entrepreneurship (FYSE). Leo is from Jiangsu Province in China, and he is fluent in Mandarin and English.

Nora Gao was previously Senior Strategic Analyst for B&Q, a Fortune 500 Company in the home improvement industry, where she focused on business development and project analysis. Her work experience includes private equity fundraising, M&A initiatives, and serving as a company representative to outside parties. Nora received her Bachelor's degree in International Business and Management from Shanghai University. Her volunteer experience includes participating on a medical team to an orphanage in Anhui 2006. Nora is fluent in Mandarin and English, and she is a native of Shanghai, China.

Before joining SVG, Renee Jia had one year of working experience in the area of education and training.  She is an active volunteer in several nonprofit organizations in Shanghai.  Renee received her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.  She is from Henan Province in China.  Renee is fluent in Mandarin and proficient in English.  georgia_headshot_frameGeorgia Sparling, Communications Manager

Georgia Sparling moved to China after graduating from Brown University in 2005 with a degree in English.  In her post-collegiate years she has studied Chinese, worked as customer liaison in a small fashion company, and freelanced for publications in China and abroad. Her volunteer experience in China includes joining a physical therapy team to an orphanage in Henan province as well as working with the homeless in Shanghai. Georgia is a native of Mississippi, USA.  She is fluent in English and proficient in Chinese and French.

Zoey Liu, Project Manager

Zoey Liu is a native of Liaoning Province in northeast China and formerly studied at Shanghai International Studies University and Fudan University where she earned a bachelor’s in teaching and a minor in Finance, respectively. She worked as an analyst in corporate business development for three years at Eaton before joining the SVG team. Zoey’s volunteer activities include visiting a local nursing home and also participating in Junior Achievement’s job shadowing program. She is fluent in Chinese and English.
